Meet Alysia
Hello, I'm Alysia, a dedicated Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) who bridges the gap between clinical practice and the legal world. With two decades of nursing experience—from bedside RN roles to advanced practice—I bring a depth of knowledge and compassion to every case.
I earned my Postgraduate Certificate in Legal Nurse Consulting from Duke University, Durham, NC, and hold a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Summa Cum Laude, from Rush University in Chicago, IL, specializing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care.
Clinical Expertise That Makes a Difference
Throughout my career, I've cared for children ranging from newborns to adolescents in both community hospitals and large, internationally recognized pediatric centers. Currently, I practice in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at St. Louis Children's Hospital, one of the nation’s premier pediatric facilities, treating over 2,000 critically ill children annually from across the U.S. and more than 80 countries.
My clinical experience covers complex cases such as:
- Solid organ transplants
- Rare genetic disorders
- Level one traumas
- Non-accidental traumas
- Neurological conditions like epilepsy and stroke
- Respiratory management including ventilator dependency
- Metabolic emergencies such as diabetic ketoacidosis
- Oncology cases
- Pediatric ECMO and dialysis management
Specialized Training
Beyond critical care, I've completed a rigorous fellowship at Almost Home Kids (affiliated with Lurie Children's Hospital, Chicago), focusing on Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics, Mental Health, and Complex Care. This specialized training allows me to expertly navigate cases involving:
- Developmental disabilities (autism, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities)
- Complex medical conditions (neurological impairments, genetic abnormalities, chronic respiratory and feeding issues)
- Behavioral and mental health issues (ADHD, anxiety, depression)
Certifications and specialized trainings include:
- Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd Edition (ADOS-2)
- Ohio State KYSS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Fellowship
Advocacy Beyond Clinical Care
My advocacy extends outside hospital walls:
- Certified Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Illinois' 17th Judicial Court
- Volunteer member of P-IMERT, specializing in pediatric emergency response for natural disasters
- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) advisory council member and national convention speaker
- Guest lecturer and presenter at professional conferences and educational institutions
